About Pollen in Gdańsk

Gdańsk’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Birch and Alder pollen; Silver Birch (Betula pendula) prolific in the Tri-City Landscape Park and Oliwa Park; European Alder (Alnus glutinosa) widespread along the Motława River riverbanks. Common Hazel (Corylus avellana) contributes significantly across city gardens. Summer (June-August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from Reagan Park and along coastal dunes.

The Baltic Sea breeze pushes pollen inland; moraine hills around the city trap air masses. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in the Oliwa forests and damp maritime air.
