About Pollen in Kraków

Kraków’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Birch and Alder pollen; Birch (Betula) numerous in Wolski Forest and along the Vistula River; Alder (Alnus) and Hazel (Corylus) widespread in Planty Park. Summer (June-August) has high Grass (Poaceae) levels; Błonia Park and surrounding meadows are primary sources. Mugwort (Artemisia) contributes significantly from urban wasteland in late summer.

The city’s location in the Vistula valley traps airborne particles; temperature inversions cause stagnant air. Autumn and winter have high Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) counts; these spores come from damp leaf litter in Jordana Park and along riverbanks.
