About Pollen in Cluj-Napoca

Cluj-Napoca’s spring (March-May) has Silver Birch (Betula pendula) and European Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) pollen; these species are in the Alexandru Borza Botanical Garden and Central Park. Oak (Quercus) is in the Făget and Hoia forests. Summer (June-August) has high Grass (Poaceae) pollen, originating from Someșul Mic riverbanks and Iulius Park. Late summer has Common Ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) from empty land near the city outskirts.

The city’s valley geography and surrounding hills trap pollen, leading to high concentrations. Autumn and winter have high Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decaying leaf litter in Cetățuia Park and the damp valley floor.
