About Pollen in Jeddah

Jeddah’s spring allergy season (February-May) is dominated by Date Palm and Mesquite pollen; Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera) prolific in Al-Balad and along the North Corniche; Mesquite (Prosopis juliflora) widespread in empty suburban plots. Ragweed (Ambrosia) contributes significantly from the Hejaz Mountain foothills. Summer (June-August) sees high Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) pollen levels, originating from Prince Majed Park and the Red Sea coastline.

High humidity and sea breezes from the Red Sea trap allergens against the inland mountains. Coastal areas see high year-round Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts, from air conditioning systems and damp city buildings; seasonal dust storms increase particulate matter levels across the urban area.
