About Pollen in Málaga
Málaga’s winter (January-March) is dominated by Cypress pollen; Cypress (Cupressus) prolific on Gibralfaro Hill and in the English Cemetery. Spring (April-June) has high Olive levels; Olive (Olea europaea) contributes significantly from the Montes de Málaga. Parietaria (Parietaria judaica) is widespread along the Guadalhorce River banks. Summer (May-July) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the Guadalhorce marshes and dry hillsides.
Sea breezes often push pollen inland; however, narrow streets in the Soho district trap particles. Coastal humidity levels favor Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium); spores are frequent near the Port of Málaga and damp vegetation in the Paseo del Parque.
