About Pollen in Malmö

Malmö’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Birch (Betula); these trees are common in Kungsparken and Pildammsparken. Hazel (Corylus) and Alder (Alnus) are early sources in Slottsparken; Beech (Fagus) pollen originates from the nearby Bokskogen forest. Summer (May-August) has high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels; concentrations are elevated near Ribersborgsstranden and open fields in Limhamn.

Flat coastal terrain and winds from the Öresund strait move pollen across the urban environment. Autumn and winter have elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts; these come from decomposing organic matter in city parks and the damp maritime climate.
