About Pollen in Geneva

Geneva’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Birch and Ash pollen; Birch (Betula) is frequent in Parc de la Grange and Parc des Bastions; Ash (Fraxinus) is widespread along the Rhône riverbanks. Oak (Quercus) is common in the Bois de la Bâtie forest. Summer (June-August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the Jura mountain foothills and meadows near the Arve River.

Proximity to Lake Geneva creates humid conditions; the Bise wind carries pollen from the surrounding plateaus into the city. Autumn and winter have high Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) levels; spores come from decaying leaf litter in urban parks and damp lakefront environments.
