Pollen Count & Forecast for Kaohsiung
About Pollen in Kaohsiung
Kaohsiung’s primary pollen season (February-May) is dominated by Paper Mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera); this species is dense on Shoushan and near Chengching Lake; Acacia (Acacia confusa) is common on the hills of Mount Banping. Year-round Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) and Cogongrass (Imperata cylindrica) are found along the Love River banks. Beefwood (Casuarina equisetifolia) levels are high along the Cijin coastline.
Maritime humidity and coastal winds disperse pollen. High temperatures and seasonal rainfall result in high Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts; these are found near the damp embankments of Lotus Pond and older urban districts. Dust mites are a constant presence in the humid air across the city.
