About Pollen in Taipei

Taipei’s spring (February-May) is dominated by Cedar and Mulberry; Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) prolific in Yangmingshan National Park; Paper Mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera) widespread along the Tamsui River and city streets. Acacia (Acacia confusa) contributes significantly from larger urban hillsides. Summer sees high Grass (Poaceae) levels, originating from Da’an Forest Park and riverside green spaces.

The surrounding mountains trap air within the Taipei Basin, leading to localised high pollen concentrations. Year-round humidity sees elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts, from damp building materials and wet leaf litter in the Maokong hills.
