About Pollen in Tunis

Tunis spring (February–May) is dominated by Olive and Cypress pollen; Olive (Olea europaea) prolific on hillsides near Jebel Boukornine; Cypress (Cupressus) widespread across Belvedere Park. Parietaria (Parietaria judaica) contributes significantly from limestone walls in the Medina and Carthage ruins. Summer (May–July) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from fields near the Lake of Tunis and suburban parklands.

Mediterranean sea breezes push pollen inland; narrow city streets trap irritants. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp air near the Gulf of Tunis and decomposing vegetation in city gardens.
