Pollen Count & Forecast for İzmir
About Pollen in İzmir
İzmir’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Olive (Olea europaea) and Turkish Pine (Pinus brutia) pollen; Olive is widespread in the Balçova hills; Turkish Pine originates from the Yamanlar Mountain forests. Mediterranean Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) contributes pollen from Kültürpark and city cemeteries. Summer (May-August) has high Pellitory (Parietaria judaica) and Grasses (Poaceae) levels, originating from the Gediz Delta and Meles Stream banks.
Coastal sea breezes and surrounding mountains trap pollen in the city basin; this leads to high localised concentrations. Autumn has elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp reeds in the İzmir Bird Sanctuary and decaying vegetation in the İnciraltı City Forest.
