Pollen Count & Forecast for Kampala
About Pollen in Kampala
Kampala’s dry seasons (December–February and June–August) are dominated by grass pollen; Elephant Grass (Pennisetum purpureum) is common along the Kitante River and Makerere Hill; Guinea Grass (Megathyrsus maximus) grows in Centenary Park and the Lubigi wetland. Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) and Acacia (Acacia senegal) trees release pollen from the slopes of Kololo Hill and Nakasero Hill.
Moist air from Lake Victoria carries pollen across the southern suburbs. Heavy rains during March–May and September–November increase Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts; these spores thrive in the humid valleys and around the Nakivubo Channel. Low wind speeds in the city basin often hold allergens near the ground.
