About Pollen in Eastbourne

Eastbourne’s spring (March-May) sees dominant Birch and Oak pollen, concentrated in urban green spaces like Gildredge Park and Hampden Park’s wooded fringes; summer (May-July) features high grass pollen levels, originating from extensive lawns within Princes Park and surrounding arable land towards the South Downs.

Coastal sea breezes offer some pollen dispersion; however, the South Downs escarpment west of the city can trap and concentrate airborne allergens, particularly with prevailing south-westerly winds. Late season (August-October) outdoor mould spores proliferate, stemming from decaying leaf litter in public parks and damp coastal vegetation.
