Pollen Count & Forecast for Detroit
About Pollen in Detroit
Detroit’s spring allergy season (April–June) is dominated by Maple (Acer) and Oak (Quercus) pollen; Maple is common in Palmer Park; Oak is widespread in Belle Isle Park. Birch (Betula) is present in mid-spring. Summer (June–August) has high Grass (Poaceae) levels from Rouge Park and along Detroit River riverbanks. Late summer has Common Ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) from vacant urban lots.
Flat terrain near the Detroit River allows pollen to drift from nearby Windsor. Humid air from Lake St. Clair increases Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts; these spores are in damp soil and leaf litter in Chandler Park.
