About Pollen in Sacramento

Sacramento’s spring allergy season (February-May) is dominated by tree pollen; Oak (Quercus) is prolific in Capitol Park and William Land Park; Sycamore (Platanus) is widespread along Midtown streets. Mulberry (Morus) and Walnut (Juglans) are common in McKinley Park and surrounding orchards. Summer (May-August) has high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from fields along the American River and Sacramento River parkways.

The Sierra Nevada foothills and the Central Valley’s bowl shape trap airborne particles; the Delta Breeze carries pollen through the urban corridor. Autumn and winter have elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp leaf litter in city parks and agricultural residues in the surrounding valley.
