Pollen Count & Forecast for Salt Lake City
About Pollen in Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Juniper and Boxelder pollen; Utah Juniper (Juniperus osteosperma) prolific in Wasatch Range foothills; Boxelder (Acer negundo) widespread in Liberty Park. Scrub Oak (Quercus gambelii) contributes from the East Bench. Summer (May-July) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the Jordan River Parkway. Autumn (August-October) sees high Sagebrush (Artemisia) and Ragweed (Ambrosia) levels from Great Salt Lake shorelines.
Valley topography and thermal inversions trap pollen; mountains block airflow and increase concentrations. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in Red Butte Canyon and damp areas near Farmington Bay.
